Discussion

 Film Clip

Discussion material.  Pick the questions below that resonate with you and let’s talk about them!

 1.  The “rules of tranquility” begin to be broken.  Luke meets with Armand and their relationship grows.  Is it “right” to have Luke sneaking around to see his grandmother?  What are some examples you can recall of breaking rules for a higher cause?

 2.  Serge is being trained to be a gentleman, a la “My Fair Lady.”  Why doesn’t the transformation “work?”  Where does real change take place?

 3.  Note the way Vianne gathers the outcast and the “powerless” around her and their lives are transformed in the process of the film.  Who are they?  What does Vianne represent here.

 4.  Josephine seems to grow personally in this segment.  What happens to her?  What kinds of events bring about personal growth in us?  What does her statement “God must be blind” mean to you?

 5.  What effect does the chocolaterie seem to be having on the town?  Would you consider this a good Lent or a bad one?

 6.  Where do you think the energy in the town comes from that they turn against the “pirates”?  Do they deserve this treatment?

 7.  How would you describe the tactics of the Mayor?  Have you ever seen such tactics used in your town or in your life?

 8.  Caroline exposes Armand’s true condition.  Was it fair of Armand to conceal her diabetes?  Why would she do such?  Can you think of other examples of this kind of behavior.

 9.  Why do you think Jesus doesn’t address the Greeks, or the question put to him about them?

 10.  Why do you think Philip hesitates to go to Jesus himself?

Closing prayer.
