Hiking and Backpacking

Rev. Geoff Nelson, pastor of Whittier Presbyterian Church, enjoys hiking and backpacking in Southern California and the Sierra Nevada mountains.  The church sponsors occasional backpacking trips into those areas.  If you have ever hiked or backpacked or think you would be interested in future trips, please contact Geoff or the church office, as indicated above.

This is an extension of a program started by the Synod of Southern California & Hawaii.  Material and photos of the last three years hikes and backpack trips can be found at

Trips for 2003

            May 25-26 – Overnight hike to Henninger Flats, in the San Gabriel Mountains.  See the information from last year’s hike at http://www.whitpresby.org/henninger_overnight_may02.htm

            July 27 to July 31 or Aug. 1 – High Sierra Backpack trip.  Sabrina Basin in Bishop Creek Canyon.  You can see the photos from previous trips at the website at http://www.whitpresby.org/summer_backpacking_2001.htm
