Spiritual Readings "Greetings from Whittier Presbyterian Church"
Jan. 2, 2001
In her book “Cloister Walk” Kathleen Norris notes several saints days with a brief reference to that particular saint. January 2 is the day of Basil the Great and Gregory of Nazianzus. Here is some of her commentary and a quote from Gregory.
Gregory‘s view of the common good is still relevant, and increasingly endangered in a world that idolizes private wealth. “Let us put into practice,” Gregory says, “The supreme and primary law of God. He sends down rain on just and sinful alike and to earth’s creatures he has given the broad earth, the springs, the rivers and the forests….he has given abundantly to all the basic needs of life, not as a private possession, not restricted by law, not divided by boundaries, but as common to all, amply and in rich measure.”
How abundantly has God blessed you? How much of that blessing do you share? May you find the abundance of God in your life and be compelled to share it with others, in a world that cries out for sharing and abundance.
Grace & peace to you all.
