Daily Bread:

Strength for the Journey

 

What Is the Bible?  How can it help me?

The Daily Bread program will help you answer these questions. This Bible program at Whittier Presbyterian Church runs throughout the year, generally in 5 week sessions, in the Fall, Winter and Spring. It will be a combination of prayer and Bible study, emphasizing Bible knowledge as a foundation for our spiritual lives. The Daily Bread program will be offered on Wednesdays twice per day (morning and evening) making it more available to those who wish to attend.

Session Times

The morning session will begin at10:00 a.m..

The evening session will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Child care will be provided for all sessions.

Summer Session, 2003        Stories of David

July 16 -  God’s covenant with David, but no temple.            2 Sam. 7:1-14a

July 23 - David’s lust for Bathsheba & plot to kill Uriah.  2 Sam. 11:1-15 

July 30 - Nathan’s confrontation with David.  2 Sam:11:26-12:13a 

August 6 - Battle with and death of Absalom.  2 Sam 18:5-9, 15, 31-33

August 13 - Solomon & the dedication of the Temple.  I Kings 8:91, 6, 10-11) 22-30, 41-43

 

Session Five, Winter 2003        The Letter of Paul to the Galatians

This class will meet the following days.

Session Four, Fall 2002        The Gospel of Matthew

Oct. 30 - Ch. 1-4, beginning, birth, baptism, temptation, choosing disciples

Nov. 6 - Ch. 5 - Ch. 10 – Jesus preaching & teaching in Galilee

Nov. 13 - Ch. 11 - 17 – The Kingdom of God and the New Community

(No class Nov. 20 nor 27)

Dec. 4 - Ch. 18 - 25 – Teaching and conflict in Jerusalem

Dec. 11 - Ch. 26 - 28  – Death and Resurrection.

1.  Scriptures for prayer and reflection from Series One, Fall 2001.

2.  Lectio Divina guidelines.

3.  The Confession of 1967.

Classes will be taught by Rev. Geoff Nelson and Marilyn Jones.  Save the dates, and we are looking forward to seeing you at Daily Bread: Strength for the Journey as we explore together what the Bible is and how God’s Word can feed us all.
